Ironman 2008

Josh and I had quite the weekend! With only five days till the due date we made the decision to venture to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to watch our brother-in-law, Ben, compete in the Ironman triathlon. We arrived at Heather and Jim's house on Saturday evening in order to start our day early on Sunday.

We all got up around 5:15 in the morning in order to meet up with Ben at around 6:45 down near the Coeur d'Alene Lake, where the swim takes place. This is Ben greasing up in order to get his wet suit on. We heard the lake was freezing!

Ben is in this mass of swimmers somewhere. If you can pick him out of the crowd let me know! There are actually scuba divers swimming underneath the schools of swimmers in case someone gets hit/kicked too hard and blacks out or is having trouble. Pretty intense, huh?!
After the transition from the 2.4 mile swim to biking we knew we had some time to kill and opted to go get some breakfast. So, we hiked back up to the cars and headed off to one of Pat Greenfield's relatives house, which was also close to the area where the triathletes pass on their bike course. This is the Greenfield fan club waiting to catch a glimpse of their own triathlete.
I had to post this picture because these men and women are amazing to me! This man is a paraplegic and is using simply his arms to pedal his bike. Can you imagine?
At this point in the day we all were getting a little tuckered out and hungry, not just the boys, so we quickly headed back down to the lake to catch Ben's transition from biking 112 miles to beginning his marathon run of 26 miles. Then it was off to find lunch. Sadly, we forgot our camera in the car and neither of us wanted to hike the mile-plus back to get it. As a result we didn't catch Ben at the finish line. Overall he placed 25th and third in the 25-29 amateur division. He seemed pretty happy with how he did and we all had a great time watching him perform!

Good pics! Looked like a fun day!
I couldn't figure out the pregnant girl in orange in the first pic, and then I realized it was Jessa with the boys all wrapped up on her. They look cozy!
