What is a January without an ER visit thrown in there somewhere? Three years running as of last Saturday. We just had an appointment with Anthony's allergy specialist on Friday and she recommended we try him out on a grain called Kamut. It is an ancient Egyptian grain or something, supposedly very hypoallergenic. So come Saturday we headed off to the Co-op, hunted some down, and cooked it up for dinner. Normally I would have tested it on A's skin first but it was recommended by the specialist. Of course it would be alright. Within half an hour Anthony was complaining of stomach pains and began to sneeze a lot. So we loaded him up on Benadryl and began to pray. Immediately after that he threw up. Then came the change of voice and the swelling of his face. I was armed and ready with the Epi-pen when Josh, my calm in the storm, gently whisked him off to the ER. Thank God that he did because Anthony took a pretty bad turn after they arrived. My parents were kind enough to rush over and watch Harper so that I could head down to be with our little guy.
It is a strange thing when you leave a situation like that knowing that those nurses and doctors were given the knowledge that ultimately saved your child's life. What kind of thank you is sufficient enough? We just praise God that our son is here with us and that His hand like always guided us through another storm.
